Today Tonight Tomorrow | Book Review
Hello friends, long time no talk! It has been a crazy few months (for all of us I’m sure), but over the last several months, I have been more focused on going to the gym and finding a balance with life and just different hobbies. Between all of that, I have not been as consistently active on social media as I tried to be. So, as always, so many thanks to Christie for keeping the blog running and being wonderful and understanding! I seriously could not ask for a better co-blogger/friend.
Anyway, without further ado, I wanted to hop on and review this precious book I just finished!
The Hating Game meets Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist by way of Morgan Matson in this unforgettable romantic comedy about two rival overachievers whose relationship completely transforms over the course of twenty-four hours.
Today, she hates him.
It’s the last day of senior year. Rowan Roth and Neil McNair have been bitter rivals for all of high school, clashing on test scores, student council elections, and even gym class pull-up contests. While Rowan, who secretly wants to write romance novels, is anxious about the future, she’d love to beat her infuriating nemesis one last time.
Tonight, she puts up with him.
When Neil is named valedictorian, Rowan has only one chance at victory: Howl, a senior class game that takes them all over Seattle, a farewell tour of the city she loves. But after learning a group of seniors is out to get them, she and Neil reluctantly decide to team up until they’re the last players left—and then they’ll destroy each other.
As Rowan spends more time with Neil, she realizes he’s much more than the awkward linguistics nerd she’s sparred with for the past four years. And, perhaps, this boy she claims to despise might actually be the boy of her dreams.
Tomorrow…maybe she’s already fallen for him.
First off, I love a good enemies to lovers trope and this book has that! Neil and Rowan have been rivals all throughout the entire four years of high school- competing over everything from highest grade on an assignment to number of student clubs they are in to being valedictorian.
When plans go awry for Rowan, she decides she has one final opportunity to beat Neil. By taking him out in a senior-class game, Howl. However, when Rowan discovers the other seniors have other plans, she and Neil team up for the night to beat out the senior class. What happens during the game shocks both of them.
You guys, I honestly do not know where to start with this review. As I usually mention, it is hard for me to have high expectations going into a YA novel, because they are usually very hit or miss for me. T3 absolutely did not disappoint at all. It is sweet and precious and heart-warming.
One of the things I really loved about this novel was the character developments. They bring a sense of nostalgia. They are flawed and relatable. They are young and are learning to pave their own path. They are quirky and fun and smart. They are extremely well-written and you cannot help but root for them. The romance is utterly sweet.
There are also many themes such as family issues, religious sterotypes, discrimination, and breaking social norm expectations that Rachel Lynn Solomon discussed in this book that I found to be important and was addressed very well. The pacing was also done perfectly. For everything to happen over a 24 hour period of time, it was executed beautifully and I really cannot recommend this sweet and swoon-worthy book enough.
What a wonderful book with hilarious banters, laugh-out-loud moments, and heartwarming book Rachel Lynn Solomon has produced. I devoured this book is less than 24 hours and I cannot wait for her next book.
“Today isn’t my epilogue with Neil– it’s a beginning. I’ll leave the happily-ever-afters in the books.”
